Festival of Love: Valentine's Day Spirit

 

February 14th of every year, Valentine's Day is a celebratory festivity of love and affection in all its forms: romantic, friendship, and family.  Valentine's Day is happily celebrated in the Philippines with flowers, chocolates, and love letters.  Part of activities that capture the essence of love are dinner dates, surprises, and public display of affection.

Valentine's Day is also a day of expressing love and appreciation towards friends and relatives, besides lovers and spouses. It is in this context that people exchange small favors and appreciation cards to express love. As a way of commemorating the day of love in a fun way, there is the practice of giving school kids and office staff cards and small mementos.

Significance of love in our life is reminded on Valentine's Day.  It reminds us to speak of the significance of love on every day of our life, not only on 14th February.  Significance of the festival has grown with the passing years, and now it is celebrated as the day of friendship, love, and peace.
